First up, let me just say that I am sick to death of hearing about the iPhone. Every blog, forum and news site is full of people gushing about how much they want one.

However, much as I hate to add to the hype, I read an interesting article on the builder.com.au newsletter yesterday. I've searched their web site and I can't find a link to an online version, but essentially, the article points out that the iPhone uses Safari, and presumably when it comes out all the iFanboys/girls will buy one, so there is suddenly a huge number of standards-compliant mobile devices out in the wild.

"If the vision Apple sees for the iPhone comes anywhere near to fruition, the mobile Internet device will turn from a quaint little sideshow into a mainstream viewing device."

    The article concludes with:

"If ever you needed an excuse to move Web sites towards standards compliance and appearing the same in all browsers, there is now a better one than ever."

Wha does everyone think? Does this put an interesting spin on an otherwise tiresome story?

Except you can almost get the Safari experience on your Nokia Nokia press release June 2005

Yes I want an iPhone, but I am not patient person. I will go buy a Nokia instead. Things are beginning to get interesting in Oz will mobile data plans dropping in price. 3 have 1Gb month for $50. The other telcos will surely follow.

So you might see a change here before the iPhone hits our shores in 2008.

Wow, thanks for the heads up Nick, when we looked at 3's mobile broadband a few months ago it was not really allt hat good value. I'm getting a 1GB plan for sure, maybe even the 2GB plan for $69...
